'87 Truck Flasher Puzzle
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum but have been enjoying the world of Toyota trucks for most of the past year (where have they been all my life!?!). I have an '87 non-turbo diesel SR5 that has gone on a bit of a parts binge over the past week, first a clutch slave and now this.
Today's issue: The turn signals don't work and the hazzard lights don't work, BUT if the hazzard lights are turned on, the turn signals Do work. Peculiar. All other lights and electronics work. I suspect that it is in the signal/hazzard switches are having an issue, but don't know exactly what to look for. The issue occurred suddenly after being parked in town for three hours. Worked turning into the driveway, didn't when turning back out.
Does anyone have experience with these symptoms? Thanks for the help!
Cheers,
MiLo

Not yet. I've just gotten back from a short trip, so this weekend the steering column is coming apart to clean the switch contacts. The turn signals are still working when the hazard switch is turned on, but otherwise no dice.

I am wondering just where was the truck first sold??
Unless the Diesel was swapped into a US market truck.
I sort of think perhaps the EWD`s we have here could be different.
Since all the ones I have show nothing at all for the diesel engines could the flashers and turn signals be different knowing Toyota they very well could be .
Best of luck .

I believe that the truck was first sold in British Columbia, Canada. It has an unusual story in that it was a turbo diesel (a 2LT) that was stolen from a previous owner and recovered a year later sans engine. They installed a non-turbo engine (a 2L) and transmission that appear to be from an '84, according to the parts store records. It should be very similar, if not identical to trucks in the states. My manual doesn't show an EWD either, unfortunately. If I figure it out, I'll post here so that it's on the record.
