Most likely the speed cable that connects the cluster to the t-case. Easy fix. Mine touched up against the exhaust when i was working so that toasted mine.

He is talking about the odometer, not speedo. I don't know if/how it can be fixed.

When my Speedo quit it also stopped my Odometer for a few thousand miles while i fixed other things. Once i replaced the cable both started working.

Is your Speedometer still working as it should?

My odometer stopped working one day too. You need to pull the gauge cluster out and try to remove the odometer. More than likely everything has seized up and needs to be removed, cleaned, re-greased and put back together. I did that and mine works good now.

They are notorious for eventually stop working....they were lubed at the factory 30 years ago and now they are dried up and slow down and eventually stop..even worse in cold weather...remove the cluster and spray some silicone between the reels, it helped mine..
