Cleaning upper and lower plenums

Hello all. Well I have my short block built and should be receiving the rest of my parts next week. Now the question is what did you all use to clean the gunk and tarnish out of your intake manifolds. Once I get some pictures and learn how to post I will post pics of engine. Pretty wild color. Lol

well so far I have found mineral spirits, and wood stripper. Stay away from oven cleaner and other caustic cleaners. Going to look here to see if any of the shops have a sonic tank or jet tank with aluminum cleaner.

What about good old fashioned carb cleaner and some elbow grease?

I have a plastic "mortar mixing tray", which is a large plastic tray. I soaked the plenum in a strong mixture of dish-washer liquid and water. Then I scrubbed with a bottle brush. In the end, I still had some perfectly degreased "dirt" in places, which I just scrapped out (it breaks into dust) with a wooden stick (to avoid marring the aluminum).

I didn't remove the end caps (3VZE) from the plenum, and I could have done a much better job if I had. As best I can tell they're 40mm freeze plugs, Toyota 96411-44000, less than $10.

I take mine to the carwash and use high pressure to clean it out. For all of the hose connections, I use drill bits and twist by hand to get them cleaned. On the Plenum, I use flat blade screw drivers as mini scrapers to get the big chunks of carbon broken loose then use the high pressure wand to get the rest out.

Red face

Just put them in the Dish washer (parts washer) for a few cycles

I am sure I am not the only one that has a dish washer that is a full time parts washer.

Also any of the Aluminum wheel cleaners work good as well in your kitchen sink .
