Where in california can I get a complete 20r long block?

Lookin to replace the power plant in my '80. Was wondering if anyone knew any good, reputable shops that deal with Toyota engines. Specifically the 20r

Is it so bad you can't rebuild it?

I bought several used parts from California Mini Truck , think they might have what you want or give a referral? I bought my axle housing there but had it rebuilt near me as they were too far. http://www.calminitruck.com/

Thanks for the quick response! The odometer is broken, hasn't gone up since I bought the truck. So given the mysterious mileage and the carburetor issues I'm having, I'm just gonna start anew since I'll have it torn apart already. I was able to find a good deal at Sierra Truck in Oakdale, which is only a half-hour from home. But anyways thank you for the information!

If you're down in Oakdale, try calling up Tim at CT Engineering in Sonora - supposedly one of the best Toyota engine rebuilders in CA and his prices aren't bad considering what he does. I am considering them for my truck when it's time. Back when I talked with him, he quoted around $3k for a full rebuild along with a bunch of other stuff in the engine bay, with warranty, and a 1-2 week turnaround - I sure as hell can't do that at this price in such short time.

yeah, at least give him a call and talk it over. I like the rebuild option since you typically keep the same block (vs swapping when you put a longblock in) and all your parts are still "yours". i talked to Tim after calling a few other places here in Sac and Tim's list of items was about double what everyone else does to the truck, for not much more money. He came highly recommended to me by a friend of friend, who owns a fab shop and sends all Toyota customers needing engine work to CT Eng.
