'82 Horn won't work well when needed?

My stock horn sounds normal when it sounds but if decelerating or even cruising at steady speed its intermittent or just won't sound. If i rev up can get it to sound. New or old battery doesn't make much difference, the alternator is fine? I've cleaned and repaired the copper contact pin in steering wheel area... Anyone else have this problem? I was thinking to use a capacitor somehow to at least give a quick short sound? I don't wan't a new one but thinking might try one from a wrecking yard if can't figure this out.

Had a similar problem, I just smacked on my workbench a whole bunch, worked fine after that. If that doesn't work you can get a generic horn from Napa

Thanks, primitive but i'll try it. just wanted to keep the original sound if there is such a thing, plus not much to spend right now...

Wonder if the Delux models had 2 horns?

I don't think so, it looks like there's another mounting hole for one but it could be for the foreign trucks

How did you figure that one out? To much taking off the grill so picked up a piece of 1X2 and wacked it on the side of horn 20-30 times. It actually worked ? Thing is for how long?...even with lights on and motor off got a good beep. I couldn't get it to fail like before. Thanks for your input, made my day for sure..

I'm going to do the same except I bought their twin air horn and want to use a push button strapped to the shift shaft just below the knob. Then I'l have a 'town & country' horn, some out there will remember that sales pitch from the '60's................................ Car was, (Renault Dauphine)

Not sure its the factory color name but is original well used by Me, Bought it around 1979...got the 800 from selling my '64 GTO, worst mistake ever but used the '63 to help build a cabin, also part of the mistake...Do have a '67 vw factory poptop camper though

Tonight: Was at the 101 and 170 interchange and heard a beep from a Stock '81 Toyota LB 4x4 w/ nice new paint getting off freeway, was that yellowish tan and looked real good. we spoke for 20 seconds and he hadn't heard of this forum? He couldn't hold it back and with a smile said, "My truck has round Headlights", LOL I noticed he had 3 tie downs on the bed side.

Gonna rattle can mine. I pissed off the guy watching my truck while I was stationed in Germany so he took it out on my 4rnr. Paint has been on the to do list just below some of the mechanical issues.

MuddPigg U might as well do a Camo Paint job on that,LOL. or buy lots of rags & lacquer thinner. Rattle can will look like shi@ but if thats your pleasure I'd get a cheap sprayer from HF and Auto paint from a state you can get real paint from? I bought some Acrylic enamel Blue for the '82 4x from AZ, no time yet to paint . can't get anything here in Ca.

Yeah no crap, was thinking flat sand color. Don't like flat black or green. Camo just leads to a stereo type that I really don't care to deal with. But whatever I do i need to do it soon or weather will be to cold and I'll be stuck with this till spring. Plus need to touch up the undercarrage.
