1991 22RE- Who can tell me the difference between the 4WD and 2WD starters?

I read Toyota had an optional 1.4KW Heavy Duty starter for the 22RE engines that was added to vehicles with their Cold Weather Package in the US so I did a little snooping on Mid Atlantic Toyota Parts website and was a little confused.
Not only are there different part numbers for the standard 2WD and standard 4WD starters, there are also different part numbers for the Heavy Duty 2WD and 4WD starters.

What is so different about the 2WD and 4WD starters?
Do they have more robust castings?
Are the standard 4WD trucks equipped with a higher KW starter from the factory?

I also just read that the Auto trans trucks got the 1.4KW HD starter and the Cold Weather package got a 1.6KW starter with Ireland perhaps getting a 1.8KW starter.
Confused...Anybody know for sure???

Don't know about the 1992 22RE but on first -gens, 1.0 kW was for manual transmission while 1.4 kW was for auto transmission.
1986 manual tranny used 1.0 but Toyota Parts Zone does not carry it, so I got the 1.4kW.
It is plug and play.

I just replaced my starter - '92 22RE 4x4. The parts guy gave me the option of 1kW or 1.4kW. They were the same price so it was not a tough decision. Plug and play as mentioned.
