3.0 to 3.4 swap expertise needed

Was offered a 3.4 4runner engine (was not sure of year but 2001 or newer), to replace my 3.0, on (89 4runner.
Q: What are the year limits on these type of swaps? Will ANY 3.4 work on my 89 4runner?

Appreciate your experience and wisdom.

Yes to a degree the ones with the throttle by wire can be a little more interesting.

You really want to know the year and vin of the vehicle the engine came from it can make things so much easier .

Read over the 3.4 swap section quite a bit good bit information to be had.

Hey,

My current problem (does not stay running) 3.0 continues to get elusive.
Here is the latest:
What I have done is, replaced fuel pump->replaced fuel felter-->checked injectors (are good)-->checked (and found to be good) TPS-->MPS.

Today.

Checked resitance of pickup coils and got 153.4, which is between 140 and 180. Motor still runs but shuts off in about 30 seconds.

Any ideas?

Check to see if your circuit opening relay is working like it should

Okay, thanks.

But, this term is new to me. Sorry. "circuit opening relay"? Would you share more details? What it is and how to check it.

I only have a manual that does not explain any of these details.

EGR, Plugs gap

Not sure about EGR. Will check that as well.

Gap on plugs is fine, according to specs.
Yes. It is weird.

If the air flow meter is not working/ hooked up, it will not send the signal to the Circuit opening relay to turn on the fuel pump. If you pop the hood, and jumper the FP and B+ terminals in the little grey box on the motor labeled as diagnostic it will hot wire the fuel pump to stay on. It sounds like its getting the STA *start* signal to the COR to prime the system, but the relay isn't getting the *running* signal to keep the fuel pump going.
