Yes, it fits 86-95 trucks as well.

what exactly does this do for the 2nd gen. 4runner?. is it basically a lift for the front?, or is it just a replacement for the stock components.

I guess its supposed to give 10" of wheel travel, maybe more. Its better than the 6" that the stock setup provides. I bet it moves your front wheels farther apart and close to T100 width because it needs T100 CV axles. In most states you would need some huge rediculous fender flares and mud flaps to be legal.

My only technical worry is the fact that it still uses tortion bars. Some other new kit out there (Downey I think) uses adjustable coilovers and is very similar in the A-arms and ball joint location... and probably price. Be prepared to spend as much as you would for a decent used 2nd gen 4Runner for this suspension and installation. Then there is the rear that needs to be lifted on top of that.

If you are going this far why not go a tiny bit further and get the Sway A Way coilover Racerunners like the fanciest 3rd gen lifts are? I have driven a SAW coil-overed 3rd Gen at relativly high speed on a rough trail and they truly are like riding a magic carpet down the trail. The ride was amazingly smooth compared to my (old style '86-'95)stock front suspension and compared to the stock '96-'02 suspension.

That is correct, you do need new fenders or else the first time you take a deep bump you would rip your stock fenders right off the truck. Fiberglass fenders are included with the kit. They are not bad looking to me (the picture of the 4Runner above has the bigger fiberglass fenders), but to make it look really good IMO you would have to add a custom bumper to match the extended width of the new fenders.

Here is a pic of a 3rd gen with extended fenders and his bumper is custom done to match the fenders. As you can see, when done right, it is hardly noticable (even kinda cool looking, at least to me).

I agree, I wish they would have went with a coilover design too. But Downey has been working on that thing for a while. This kit comes with racerunners shocks but minus the coils and it is all bolt on (except for the shock hoops), which someone can do most of the install themselves. I'm not sure about the Downey set up ... what do you think Matt? Do you know if its going to be an easy install ... if so, if I had a 2nd gen. I would hold out for the Downey set up ... gotta go with the coilovers

Yes, its really made for someone who has a dedicated 2nd gen trail rig and whose really into sqeezing out every bit of articulation possible. It is a functional kit though, unlike the other lift kits out on the market for 2nd gens, this one will actually increase your off-road premis ... but you pay for it $$$. Lifting the rear is no big deal, just add some Downey coils and Bilsteins.

I'm sure with the additional wheel travel, it will ride almost as good as a 3rd gen. with SAW's. That's what this type of setup is primarily made for ... high speed prerunning, but the additional travel will definitely go well with rock crawling too.
