Retrofitting Current Model 4Runner/Sequoia OE Keyless Entry into 1st Gen 4Runner
I've been wanting to do this project for a while... retrofit a current model year OE keyless entry system (OE fob has controls for door lock/unlock and rear window up/down) into my 1986 4Runner. I realize that I could pull this off for less than $100 with a universal kit, but I prefer to keep most of upgrades looking factory -- the factory window up down button looks way cooler than generic #3 & #4 buttons on a remote (see below).
I've found the door control module on ebay but am concerned whether it would require the donor vehicle's ecu to enable me to program the fob to the module. The process for programming the oe fob involves a precise sequence to turning the ignition key on & off several times, opening and closing the door and locking/unlocking the doors.
Without extensive integration, I don't know how I'd be able to pull this off -- how would the module in my vehicle even know if my door was open? etc.?
I was also wondering if there my be any companies or yotatech members out there that my be able to create a custom circuit board for the OE fob to allow it to accept an aftermarket transponder chip to control and aftermarket module.
Any thoughts?

Not asking for much.
while it could be done to put it in the key fob makes it interesting.
then your key fob gets run over by a bus full of retired hippies your back to square one
Sounds like a project for Jenny but she has not been here for awhile
