93 Toyota Pickup Questions?

My 93 toyota is an 3.0 automatic. The trucks odometer has recently started skipping and not operating period. The truck only does it when it is wet outside. Any ideas what it could be??? Also the od off light has been flashing on and off after driving it for a little bit without the odometer working. The truck is really starting to aggravate me. Any ideas of what to do or where to start would be appreciated.

Sounds like it could be some sort of electrical issue with the sensor feeding the odometer? Sensor could be on the trans or trans related, but not sure as I've never had an auto.

The factory service manual would be a great place to start researching while you wait for more experienced posters.

Just the odometer? Or do you lose the speedometer at the same time?

The flashing OD light is trying to tell you something; you need to listen, rather than get aggravated. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...31diagnosi.pdf I'm guessing that you have code 42; VSS1 also drives the speedometer. About $120-$160, depending on model, at RockAuto. Yours is about the vintage where they start to fail.

i lose the speedometer and the odometer at the same time. i think its the vss1 as well, i had an error code a couple months ago, that seemed to resolve itself. hadnt shown itself in a while, but seems like it is back now.

+1 on VSS. I had the same problem and that fixed it right up. About a 5 minute fix.
