I just bought this rig. It has been in Arizona its whole life and I am the 3rd owner. It sat for the last 6 years which is sad.

Mileage is 161,xxx. It is an SR5 with power everything including a mechanical antenna.

So far, I've done a complete 4x4 driveline service; changed the differential fluid, transfer case fluid and manual tranny fluid. Also performed a power steeting fluid change. Changed the oil too---Maxlife 10W30. However, it looks like the front axle does not engage. So no four wheel drive. Whatever, I'll get to it. Also cleaned the t-body. I am going to do fuel rail service and S-tool intake cleaning in the next week or so.

Put new tires on it. No big tires, just what came from factory.

New battery.

Front end alignment.

The PO put new brakes, clutch, plugs and cap.

Interior is nice. Just used a carpet extractor and cleaned the carpet and seats.

The undercarriage is absolutely rust free. Thinking maybe of having it detailed. It will look brand new.

It needs paint on the cab, I guess it sat outside in the Arizona sun for too long. Not sure what to do, but I'd like some input on what to do. I don't want to do a whole repaint. I think a ferral cat got in the engine bay and sprayed...that nastiness is slowly burning itself off.

I'm not going to do a lift or anything wild. I just want to drive it.


I recall when these trucks came out. I was just a young kid with a dream. They changed the world with their reliability and appearance.

 

That truck is ridiculously clean. I'm pretty jealous of the condition it is in. Up here, that would be in a museum. Seriously, even my seat brackets are rusted out.

Wow, that thing is a show pony. I'd love to have one like that, but hate to drive it in the rust belt where I live. Ahh, the rust life.

 

When you replaced the driveline fluids, did you replace the washers on the drain and fill plugs? Thanks

Mine started its life in Arizona too... Exact same color. A old man's garage truck until the guy I got it from got it... That's when it got its sun fade... I need to have it repainted in full. Previous owner had the hood done, but now fender tops and roof top have the clear coat haze too...

Anything rubber on that engine -- coolant hoses, vacuum lines, etc, will need replaced... Takes some time and $, but definitely worth doing it all on the front end if you want it reliable... That part that connects to your throttle is ~$40 on amazon vs $150 or something from the dealer...

Plastic parts will break as well, but usually they're connectors and buttons and the like and not critical failures...

Highly recommend the 31" tire route. Big fan of them on mine...

The castrol synthetics w/ Titanium really quiets down the engine cam clicks too (see my Amsoil flush thread for that service too).

I sure did, did it just to be sure and now I know it's done. Got them from the dealer.

 

Nice one. Really appreciate old trucks getting repaired, don't see those everyday.

 

Keep it stock and you'll be glad you did 10 years from now.
