Hi everyone, I recently bought a 1988 4runner 3.0 5 speed for $1100. I got it running pretty good after putting a new fuel pump in, as well as normal tune-up stuff and ran some seafoam through it. It starts and runs good, has decent oil pressure, clean oil and coolant, but has an annoying tapping sound from idle to about 2000rpm. When driving, I can hear it when accelerating and cruising up to 2k rpm, but not when decelerating/"engine braking." Also, it's louder in the interior than looking under the hood.
Any insight to what it may be? I'm hoping to get it smogged soon...

Can you describe the tapping noise by any chance? Does it sound like a lifter tick? A constant tick tick tick while the engine is running? The 3.0 doesnt have lifters. The camshafts push directly on the valves to open and close them.
