1988red.3slow's 1988 3vze 5spd pickup build.
Hey there YT im a new member on this forum, but its about time I started networking on my current build!
Just bought a 1988 3vze single cab with a 5 speed. Had about 193k on it. Mostly RV towed miles. Had it for about a week now, it runs fantastically! Has a few things here or there needing some tlc but hey, its a great start!
Soooo the 3.slow 3vze. Im really looking for some suggestions on mods and improvements. I know they tend to have slight temperature issues and are notorious for that head gasket... so im just really looking to see whats out there for common changes made for healthier running. IT IS BONE STOCK. This truck has not had anything done for mods. Totally straight body. No rust. Shes a beaut. (Will have more pics up soon)
Im already thinking an intake system will be good. And probably an exaust. I was leaning towards a single flowmaster. (Dads 4runner sounds great with it) and maybe some different exaust headers for better bay temperature management. I was also looking to go with a set of 31"x 10" tires with the stock 15" steelies for some meat. And I heard that size is perfect for all gain and no loss in functionability.
ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. Or if you just wanna bs,
lets bs! Haha
Thanks for readin yall

Download the free photobucket app, upload your pictures to it, then copy/paste the IMG code from the app onto your post here. Really, really easy!
Example: [IMG]blahblahblahnumbersblah[IMG]
It should look something close to that when you're done.
With the 3vze, 31x10.5 is a perfect size! I've got 32x9.5s on my truck, and they're great, too.
Exhaust and intake really help to open up the sluggish 3.0. Search ISR mod for the 3vze. All it takes is a 45* mandrel bent pipe (mandrelbendsolutions) and a little creativity rerouting hoses.
For exhaust, a turbo style muffler sounds best IMO, but whatevs. Headers are hard to find, and expensive when you do find them, so you may want to consider a custom crossover using your existing manifolds.
Good luck!

Thanks a ton! Ill get that app. I was looking into the thorley headers off instagram.. any feedback on those? They seem like the only option out there. But if their nice im not worried about paying a little extra.. and I was also looking at just grabbing an ebay cold air kit for 25.00 and putting a k&n filter.. seemed cheap and easy.. but im still looking into alternatives. I do like to have a good looking engine bay.

I am really tryin here lol which img code? I go to pb, click the share logo for the pic I want, select "copy link to clipboard" then it shows four options for which link. I chose the direct option and I tried the email option and neither links work lol
