22r weber 32/36 hard starting when hot

so I have an 82 Toyota with the 22r it has a weber 32/36. it stars great when cold I drive it for a bit and after the truck is warm or I stop somewhere for a few min it takes for ever to start just cranks. I have checked the float level found it to be way out of adjustment got the truck running really good. I have a fuel regulator and guage on it fuel pressure around 3.5 to 4 lbs but I just cant figure it out only when hot I have tried running the fuel lines to colder areas but no success. hopefully someone has run into this issue before any help would be great. also might ad the trucks got good compression and has a fresh tune up and fuel pump everything is literally new.

I just read something about blocking off the fuel return line ??? mines not it need to be done ??

Well when it runs it runs better idles smoother just went around the block shut it off for 5 min and now we're back to no starting

I might try setting the float higher since it just cranks over like there's no fuel

Manual or electric choke? Does it have an anti-diesel switch? If so, does it have switched 12v?

If it's an electric choke and you don't have switched 12v going to it, it may make it act funny, though I don't know if it would make it do what it's doing. As far as the anti-diesel, it's meant to snap shut and block/severely restrict fuel whenever it doesn't have 12v going to it(when the ignition is turned off) so the engine shuts off easier. If that's not connected, it could definitely cause issues restarting.

Ya it's got an electric choke which is all hooked up and working good and no anti- dieseling valve. Iam thinking now that's it's warm outside it might be getting vapor locked but I don't know

Maybe, but mine never did and I ran it many times in 100+ heat. I kept the fuel pressure down at 2.5 and left the fuel return line hooked up, but it was also a mr gasket brand regulator, so who knows how accurate that really was. You absolutely sure you don't have a vacuum leak in the adapter when it gets warmed up? These things are VERY sensitive to vacuum. Have you changed the jets at all? What are your settings for mixture and speed screws?

Well I just removed the mr gasket ... Regulator and gauge went fuel supply right to the fuel pump adjusted the set screw in when hot till it ran like crap then 1/4 turn out and hooked the return line back up. Also changed the base gaskets again cleaned the carb out re adjusted the float a little higher and all seems to be working great not running rich at all kinda surprised

Oh I also re set the timing up at 5' d she starts up at any temp now

Did you have it more advanced before that? Mine seems to be getting crummy mpg so I want to test my timing pretty soon and see if my vacuum advance unit has crapped out again.

When mine is hot I usually have to put my foot on the gas pedal a tiny bit, for it to start up easily. I don't know if you were doing that, nor if it's normal to need to.

I would be pretty surprised if it was running rich, I had to go for larger jets even though I was driving anywhere from 4,000 to 9,000' elevation. Glad you got it sorted out

well back to the same issue I found my fuel tank vent to be plugged fixed that just temp by drilling a small hole in the fuel cap been working great until this morning it wouldn't start tried everything but couldn't check for spark had a buddy come by I disconnected #1 wire put an old plug in it and bam it fired up so who knows. is it possible the distributer could be messing up intermittently and how do I check ...... also for a not I changed the coil/ igniter pack and that didn't fix a thing.

Hard start when hot also points to your coil going bad. Might wanna check that too.

Well it finally cramped out where I was able to check it out and it ended up being the distributer not sending the coil the signal to fire changed dist all is good
