22RE harder to start in hot weather..

Title says it all.. It'll start up no problem within 2 seconds early in the mornings and at night. But when it's been sitting in the hot summer sun all day long 85+ it just cranks and cranks for a good 5-8 seconds before it finally fires up. After it starts I can turn it off and back on without a problem again.

I had this issue with a honda and it was some cracks in the solder on the main relay so I'm thinking some sort of electrical is heating up or I'm losing fuel pressure somewhere due to the heat outside..

Anyone have any experiences with the Toyota's having this issue? It will always start up; I'm just tired of cranking for so long.

Does it smell like raw fuel out the exhaust? Mine does that once in a while. Stinks like raw fuel. Try starting with throttle open, release when it catches. Probably your cold start injector/time switch is having issues. Easy fixes if so.

Never really smelled raw gas but I can check again tomorrow. It does help a bit if I keep my foot on the pedal when starting.. Easy fixes but $$$. Thinking my CSI is leaking.. But would warmer weather cause my CSI to leak though? I had this issue at the end of last summer, over winter (0-40 degrees F) I had no trouble starting but now that temps are warming up it's coming back.

I'm thinkin your cold start injector is being told to open when it doesn't need to, putting your engine into a "flooded" condition. You could be losing pressure or "vapor locking" in your fuel rail, but any fuel pressure loss will be recovered as soon as the fuel pump starts. So not as likely, to me. You're probably looking at removing your engine temp sensor and cleaning it, same for the time switch. Usually, they work ok with a cleaning. I've never looked up their cost.
