first pickup! 94 sr5

hey everyone! picked up my first pickup truck this past friday, 94 sr5 with the 3.0 and i love it! rebuilt motor by toyota, rebuilt tranny last week, cali body and one owner 177K on the body. has a few dings but the frame is solid and rust free.

i was driving a 89 honda crx for the past 11 years, it was my first car and i still have it, just took it off the road to repair rust. i plan to keep this truck for just as long.

i picked it up to carry all my welding supplies cause the honda just doesn't cut it.

my plans for this are the obvious things like rear bumper and running board cap, and a few interior small pieces. then id like to get a little more mpg out of it. headers to address the hot spot, stock tires when these wear out, rear diff gear and i think that's it. want to grease the drive shaft and change the rear diff fluid as of this weekend.

im on long island new york so we have some trails but its mostly beach driving.

here are the pics.

i wire brushed all the surface rust on the frame and put a rust inhibitor coating on, need to do a rubberized coating as well this weekend.

If you are looking for MPG gains, I highly recommend getting a cat-back exhaust setup done with 2 1/4 in back and a high flow muffler like a Magnaflow or Flowmaster. You'll never regret it and for $300 or less (since you can weld, you can probably do the whole job for under $100) you'll get better MPG's and a HP boost as well.

The 3VZE engines are starved for air, the more you can open it up the better it runs!

not much progress on this truck, so far just changed EVERY fluid, manual hubs, and a cap on the back. still planning on a high flow cat/bigger exhaust, redo the intake arm, k&n filter, and stock tires

i did buy the super springs SSA1 mounting and spring kit to carry my 15kw generator but i have one question that their service rep couldn't help with.

will the spring go above or below this bolt? or do i just remove the bolt and let it move freely? thanks for any help!

Welcome to YotaTech!

Cool truck. Glad you decided on a Toyota. Haha.

Headers on the 3VZ-E are headache. 90% of headers are not easily installed without dramatic modifications. I'm sure there are several threads on 3VZ headers here on YotaTech.

As far as MPG with that trucks options you will be lucky for 15-20 max MPGs without major modifications.

yes i do love this truck except the mpg, i was able to get 330 to a tank so far

still the question remains with the super springs kit and that bolt...I plan on installing it tomorrow or sunday and taking pictures.

edit: after looking around a little more it looks like i should buy new spring packs...found them for 129.99 a side
