Tell me everything you know about this Yota
Hello Yotatech! I'm new to the forums, and also pretty new to offroading. I use to own a '90 4Runner that had a mild lift and tires on it but nothing serious. I don't really know to much about toyota's as I'm not really mechanically inclined. I just want you to tell me everything you know about this Toyota that you know based off the pictures. All I know is that she's a first gen, an '82 maybe '83 from what I can recall, and that she has a 22R in her. She's been sitting on a family friend's farm for some time now and once I scrap up enough money the person said I could take her. Basically she rolled on her side (I don't have pics of that side), and the cab is all sorts of messed up. So the owner basically took off the 35" tires and put it on his Suzuki.

So, more specifics on what you want to know would be good, but here goes.
82 or 83 (square headlights)
Looks like it's a longbed that's been bobed.
Has high steer installed.
Homespun rock sliders of dubious quality.
Body looks beat to hell.
Does that cover it?

Looks like it MIGHT be chevy 63" springs in the rear (they look like different design than yota springs but I'm not sure, could be some aftermarket lift springs)
Front has u-bolt flip and has a minimum of 3" lift on the front because that's what's required for clearance for high steer (or so I've heard, high steer is on my to do list).
Can't tell much else from pics and the way it's sitting. Best to ask the owner.

Rear springs are definitely suspect and the obvious body issues. The frame looks like it COULD be good, but you would need to do a thorough rust inspection. Unless you are getting a good deal AND that frame is good, I wouldn't spend a penny over $800 for it because you're going to need at least $2-3K just to get it safely running on the trails assuming the engine is good.

In your case I would pass.
All this is going to do is cost money and frustration.
Now if this was your third or fourth project and you were able to do all the wrenching .
I would say it needs a lot closer inspection before reaching for the wallet.
Now if this is something to work on as time and money permit a year maybe longer till all the issues are fixed.
As an example I have a 88 4x4 5 speed 22REC all new brakes some front end damage with the parts to fix all new exhaust that I would sell For $1000.00
Get something that runs and is street legal.
