Battery Light

I took my truck to a local battery shop and had my battery tested. Test said I needed to replace my battery. Replaced battery and the light won't turn off.
Truck is a 1999 SR5, 4x4, v6

Check voltage across terminals with truck off should be at least 12v, truck on should be at least 13.5v or better.

sounds like your alt brushes are dusted. if you were not charging it wasnt the battery. you should be at 14 for running or close to it and 12.6 with engine off on a full charge. try thumping the alternator with the handle of your hammer with the engine running and see if the light goes off most of the time this will jar them enough to make a little contact. if it does its the brushes and are like 2 dollars to replace parts wise.

What happened was I had ran the battery down a little bit listening to radio with the truck off. Then the light came on maybe an hour later and was just on when I was idle. Took it to shop had it tested said it needed new battery and after my other completely died and had to be jumped I jumped the gun and got the new battery. Now that light won't turn off at all. I'll go try the hammer thing

Well a few.
Alternator should have been tested by the battery place...I would do business elsewhere. .

Sometimes alternators and batteries fail together. Seen it a hand full of times. Once on an old honda and the rest were domestics.

Removing the battery cable with an engine running is just plain dumb.

But if that is your thing go for it.

Because with a cable disconnected from the battery you no longer have a complete circuit.

No voltage to excite the alternator

A blurb on it here : http://www.ehow.com/how_7537506_test...r-battery.html

As they mention, not a good plan on newer, computer controlled vehicles. But, it is a 'tool' I have heard of in the past.

FYI -
