Failing at DUI distributor install '84 pickup

Howdy, I'm trying to put a DUI Distributor into a 1984 Toyota Pickup with a 22r.

I just cannot get it started. I've tried hooking the hot wire directly to the battery and I measured the voltage during ignition at 11 volts (within the acceptable range according to one of their techs on the phone).

I have my plugs gapped at the recommended .05 and I've hooked up my timing light while I've tried to start and it flashes, albeit in a strange pattern.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you get it 180 degrees off?

I don't think so. Other than just turning it around, is there any way I can make sure it's facing the right direction?

You are talking about a distributor right?
Make sure the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke
