So I bought an 86 4runner that had a blown head gasket and has been sitting a while. Decided to do a complete rebuild on the motor with the rust I could see from the spark plug holes. Well after getting the engine out and torn mostly down I am wondering if the engine is even salvagable or if I should try and find another one. A guy on craigslist in Denver has a "running" 22re for $500 I thought might be an idea. What do yall think??? Main concern is the rust.

 

Boy that motor looks pretty rough. Your best bet is to buy another one to build. If you werw going to build that one it would need a full rotating assembly replacement.
