transfer case problems

A guy I know has an 87 4x4 with a VF2A transfer case. I'm interested in buying it but the only thing stopping me is that the front axle won't pull. The low range selection works but the front axle doesn't pull in high or low range. I'm clueless. Please help.

I'm not sure what a VF2A t-case is. What's it out of? Year/model?

The RF1A is the gear drive case.

Could be a broken axle a broken Hub or both not engaging .

If there is a problem in the case most times the noise it made will tell you.

Marlin Crawler has a breakdown of the tcase. Not sure which model it is very detailed and could give you an idea.

The VF2A is simply a chain driven case found behind the 4cyl automatic.

Good to know. Never dealt with a Toy chain case. But I will retain this bit of knowledge until I forget it...

But how is this in an '87? Swapped in from '89-'95 truck?

Well, considering they had Auto 4x4's from at least 84, I'd say it's stock.

I got it. I failed to take note of the "automatic" portion of your statement. It was early AM....
