94 Toyota oil pump pickup screen

I recently bought a 2wd motor to put in my 94 4x4. My old motor blew a rod and the pieces were banging around in the oil pan. While changing everything over to go on the new motor when I pulled the oil pan and pickup tube the tube has a hole in it from the parts that broke. Can I weld it up? What material is it made out of? A new one priced at 150-250 I'm trying to get this thing on the road and it seems every lil thing keeps holding me up. Any tips would be appreciated.

This part? $43-$56.

You're undoubtedly a much better welder than I am, but if your repair lets go you will instantly destroy the engine. This might be one of those places where a few extra dollars is worth it.
