Is it legal?

Hey guys has anyone with close to a stock or even stock 2nd gen runner gotten flack from the cops for removal of their rear bumper. I have a STOCK runner with a level kit in the rear and honestly my bumper has had better days and so I was wanting to remove it and have seen other runners around town do it but I don't want any trouble from the 5-0. So my question is am I still legal without my rear bumper and mud flaps?

You need to go by what state you live in.

I would say big tires you better have mud flaps if not flares.

I caught it once, but the ticket was thrown out. Things like that are pretty slack around here.

I suppose there is some place and some circumstance where it might be legal to have no bumper, but in general you must have one.

e.g.,

This is how you get away with it in CA on these trucks.
"...or to any passenger vehicle which was not equipped with a front or rear bumper, or both, at the time that it was first sold and registered under the laws of this or any other state or foreign jurisdiction"
From what I have been told, rear bumpers were options on base model trucks.

In Pa a rear bumper is not needed But you need the front one.

Bought a new Truck back in 1976 it came with no rear bumper of course the dealer tried to sell me a cheap step bumper installed for another $500.00

I have a 2nd gen lifted with 4" blocks some small shackles and body lifted...EASILY clears my 35x13.5s.
Drove it for months with no flares, no flaps and no rear bumper...never had an issue.
Just got flares and flaps, but still no bumper.

I would say keep flaps on it to prevent shooting ˟˟˟˟ into the cars behind you and keep you license plate clear and lit and you should be find.
