Which Bumpers Will Fit My 1981 4WD Truck?

Just picked up a 1981 SR5 4WD and am looking for some bumpers. From what I have found so far it seems I need to find bumpers from the same year model, newer model bumpers require some welding or cutting to fit, is this correct? Can anyone provide info on where to get some good bumpers for 1981 model? I want to be able to keep the spare tire mounted under the bed.

TIA...

Very nice score on the truck! Most people fabricate their own bumpers for our generation trucks; however, if you do end up getting a new bumper or making one, I will certainly be willing to buy your existing front bumper and bumper brackets. Name your price!

As far as rear bumpers, you should be able to put any aftermarket bumper for 79-95 (or mix match between years). Frame dimensions are the same.

Addicted offroad makes a front tube bumper for that body style.

I didn't know about them. I wonder if my Warn 8274 would fit it there. Maybe if I relocated the solenoid pack.

Yeah, I saw that, was hoping to find something used or little less expensive, I may just find something close at the junkyard and weld it up the way I want.

thanks...

I didn't like the aftermarket options much either, so I just built my own out of 2x6 box. An 8274 is a pretty big (tall) and heavy winch for the little front end of a mini truck.

And for the rear I used a Trail Gear 84-88 pickup bumper.

Dog walker,
I have a 81 Toyota pickup and was wondering if you could call me 520-548-8121 to talk about how you built the front winch bumper. Been looking for a while on how to build/find one. Thank you.

Nice look'n Toy you found Think most any bumper in that era will fit but other brands might need some mod. I have a chrome Nissan bumper on mine and looked great till i hit each end. It has the drop down where the hitch ball goes, easier to step up into bed.

I welded steel plates extending the attchment points to make it very strong for trailer tongue weight, bumper supports 2" receiver with one big bolt and cross brace under bed to rear of spare tire secures push and pull of trailer.
