I just replaced my clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, shift fork, and shift fork ball. Now I am having a tough time getting it into gear and I have poor clutch pressure, so I'm thinking of replacing both the clutch master and slave cylinders.

My questions is, can I get away with replacing them with non-OEM parts? I can get an AISIN slave on Rock Auto for $23, and a Dohrman master cylinder for $33.

Village Toyota is charging $50 for an OEM slave, and $100 for an OEM master.

 

AISIN is one of the OEM badges, so that's good. Try one of the discount Toyota dealers that sells online; I use toyotapartszone 'cause they're close to me and the stuff comes in one day via regular UPS.

When it comes to stuff that keeps the truck running right, I'm not a fan of non OEM parts. At all.

 

You probably could get away with it but like was mentioned, how long will it last. A lot of after market is poor quality. Ebay, Amazon, Rockauto and several Toyota parts sites have the same part for about the same price as the local parts stores. There is no one stop shopping, you have to search around.

Even big name brands that work for domestics just don't seem to work well from my experience on Toyotas. There are a few part store parts I use but not many. For a quick fix you could get away with it, but in the long run you are most likely not going to get longevity out of it. I have seen poor quality brake pads cause issues for example.

are you feelin lucky? aftermarket parts work, usually. oe parts work better. but yet trail gear shackles are better than toyota shackles, etc.etc. maybe there is a upgrade in clutch parts thats not oe. i know there is a heavy fly wheel out there that works awesome.

 

i use the cheapest Master Cylinder and slave I can get.

Then I carry a spare set and tools to change them .

I am getting real fast at changing them.

Some make it more then a oil change .

The free things you get you feel that you should use the cheap ones will be gone in a few months the Aisin ones are sitting on the shelf

 

I would not follow this advice, sorry wyo, makes no sense. With my luck, the cheap parts would fail me on the coldest, snowiest day. I don't want to be out changing these parts on the side of the road.

I replaced my slave and MC with new OEM parts. The first lasted 236,000 miles, why change?

 

I also agree with you it was satire!!

But give me cold and snow anytime over a few inches of rain one could drown laying under the truck .

 

Cheap slaves and masters tend to last a couple years and some have a liftime warrenty. They don't tend to go out suddenly and leave you stranded either there's usually a lot of warning with those two particular parts.
My family has run the cheap ones (AutoZone, OReillys ect)for the last 20 years and we've only been through 4 masters and 6 slaves( on 3 diffrent trucks, and counting the originals). Only one of each was replaced because they stoped functioning the rest where for leaks. Oddly enough the two that stoped working where the originals (not knocking oem, just kinda funny)
