I need a new CATALYTIC CONVERTER

I need to replace a rusted out CATALYTIC CONVERTER on my '91 22re.

The truck has a federal emission label.

The cat I need is 12 3/4"long with flanges on both ends.

Autozone has a universal cat that does not have flanges but it is a federal emission cat...

They also have a universal cat that has flanges and will fit, but this cat is CALIFORNIA emissions approved...but its for 1996 and newer vehicles with obdII

I wanted to buy the flange unit, it bolts right up with no exhaust mods needed.

Can I use this California emissions approved cat on my truck in NJ with federal emissions or will it cause problems with inspection in NJ ?

I thought Cali emissions were more stringent than federal, don't hold me to that. Did you try a search, like rockauto.com, that might provide you with exactly what you're looking for? There's one on there for $100, fed emission, with flanges and seals.

California emissions parts are even more strict than federal. I think we have the strictest smog testing in the union. Not like all the semis, factories, and farms don't pollute the air at all...

Ca version will be fine. Though it's labelled as ca version the only difference is the company paid to have one CA certified with a stamp thus can charge more. Also since CA checks for it, you gotta have one or pay fines/not be able to smog it.

Anyways, I got a mangaflow free flowing cat last year for my truck. Has 2" bore an I can see straight through it vs stock which was at least 0.5" smaller ID and was diverted/baffled layout. I see no legit reason not to run a cat these days with the new design - it's like denying global warming exists IMO, so do your part to help. All the people who hate CA and complain about our strict emissions testing...you just wait...my guess is CA is the model that many states may follow behind within the next decade or perhaps sooner.

Btw, you're likely to spend more on a flanged version vs just welding or even clamp versions.

If you don't live in Cali you don't need a cat...otherwise be prepared to spend $100+ bucks haha

Autozone also sells Magnaflow CAT (Cali legal)
Its kinda hidden on there list because its cheaper then the others they prefer to sell.

Its a direct fit with both flanges but make sure you get the right O-rings

Item# 39884, And the LPN is 209509 about $180.
I told Toyota to take a flying leap with there $1K price
