Auto trans not going into 1st cold question!

Hi guys, I just changed my trans fluid and filter and used the Dexron III for high mileage vehicles. The other night it got down into the high 20s here and when I left work and shifted into drive it hesitated for a few seconds. Then I pulled out and it went into 2nd with no problems, I slowed down for a speed bump and hit the gas and the engine revved up, then dropped into 1st. Once it got warmed up it seemed OK. The following morning I checked the fluid, it was right on the cold full mark. What could cause this. I have always changed my trans fluid at the most every 15k and the filter "screen" every other change. I drove it to work today and it shifts fine but it is warmer out today. Do you think I should dump that fluid and go ahead and run Mobile 1 synthetic? I have never ran syn in it and have heard that changing over can cause leaks. My truck has 140,000 1 owner miles on it, never pulled a trailer or been "really" beat. Any help or insight on this would be great! Thanks a million, matt Oh how do you "flush" a trans, or would changing the fluid again with less than 100 miles on it be a good idea. Thanks, matt
