gears meake noise

gears meake noise

ok so i have my gears set up 5.29s, and my rear diff makes a winding noise when i give it a little gas not much it goes away when i give it more gas and when i take my foot off the pedal it goes away but comes back as soon as i give it a little gas. whats wrong with it?

Mine does this too... pretty sure its the pinion bearing in my case....

Could be pinion bearing, could be incorrect pinion depth, could be incorrect pinion pre-load, could be incorrect pinion/ring gear mesh (to deep or to shallow), could be crappy oil, could be a number of things from what I've learned.

That's why I let a professional gear installer set up my gears. I bring the 3rd, pick it up later and re-install myself. Because every time you hear that whine, heat is being built up somewhere and gear life is shortened.

i set my gears up with my shop teacher and he helped me the hole way, the preloads and all that are good, i set the front and the rear the same and only the rear makes the noise

Still sounds like a set up issue. One thing I've had to learn over the years is to question myself, even if I don't want to. That's why as a professional technician, I still have someone second check my work fairly often.

Give us some pics of the contact pattern on 3-4 places on the ring gear. And show the pinion pattern as well. And pic of the inch-lb torque wrench gauge while turning the pinion, which should spinning alone...

We may be able to help, but info seems limited. Tell your shop teacher the scenario and ask for his help in repairing. Don't forget also, that some cheap, chinese, crappy gear sets will always whine. Because they aren't made properly and therefore can't be set up properly...

haha thats trail gear for yeah, i dont have any pictures of them or i would post them, if they blow the blow i want 4.88s any way
