99 Tacoma not shifting as well after redline mt-90

Someone please rub my back and tell me it's goin to be ok... Like the title says I swapped my transmission fluid to redline mt-90 and its not shifting as well. Please help, is there a break in period on the fluid???

Check for proper fluid level. Check your shifter bushing and seat.

The fluid was barely dripping out of the fill hole when i was done

Take a look at your shifter bushing then. The new oil might have knocked something loose

In the MR2 world this is quite the common issue with MT-90. Lots of shifting issues after switching.

Most guys now run Shockproof lightweight and get FAR superior results. Not sure about the transmissions in the trucks though.

This is the first negative report I have seen on MT-90 in the Toyota 3G 4Runners 4G Taco world. I have 40k on the MT-90 and after a seat bushing change as well, she shifts better than new on my '99 4Runner.

I have an auto so can't comment directly on this transmission. I can comment on the MR2 transmission, tried 6 fluids in it, I thought MT-09 shifted good until I tried shockproof. Night and day difference compared to everything else I tried including AMSoil ect.

Different transmissions like different fluids so it may not apply to this one, quite possible.

First I've heard of the mt90 not shifting well in a vehicle of this generation.

Does it get better when it warms up?
Is it very cold where you are now?
Try this:
While warming up the truck before driving, throw the transfercase in neutral and the transmission in 1st. This will let the transmission oil warm up while the engine does. This helped me significantly when I use to run synthetic in my old transmission. Still helps a bit in my new trans with conventional oil. However, even with conventional, I don't have cold temp shifting issues (maybe a little notchy but I can't complain about that).

I have a trans that's only ~20k miles old and so far I've had great luck with non syn gl4 sta-lube stuff. Cheap but it shifts well when cold and hot. Can't complain. I just have to keep up on the oil changes for it.

Putting it in 1st so there is pump flow (assuming there isnt in park like some) and the fluid goes thru the radiator to help heat up the fluid, as in youre talking about an auto trans right? I'm not up on the toyota stuff but it seems like his is a manual trans and I believe the MT in MT90 means Manual Trans so I figured that....I also will be using the same oil in my 600hp Evo 8. Youre referring to an auto trans right? Just curious

He's referring to a manual trans. Manual trans do not circulate the fluid outside of the trans like an auto does.
