Rusty Fuel Tank

Rusty Fuel Tank
I recently bought the truck. I noticed a miss from time to time. Just not consistent. After new fuel filter, new plugs, wires, vacuum hoses, throttle body, VAFM, TPS, etc. I decided it was time to send the injectors off to RC for cleaning. Two owners back had installed a fitting coming off the bottom fuel tank drain, and then put an inline pump in. This was not working so the owner I bought the truck from installed a regular style fuel pump. I have not looked inside the tank yet. But #3 injector inlet was plum full of dark rusty looking materiel. It was caught by the injector screen. This I am sure is where my miss is coming from. Instead of cleaning the injectors myself. I am still sending them out. So when the come back I will install a new fuel filter. To prevent future plugging of the injector.
What can I do about a tank full of rust?
Should I drop the tank and just flush it out?
Should I buy something to clean, and coat the tank? Does that stuff work?
Should I not worry about it?
Or should I even worry about it? Since more than likey the rust was pumped to the injectors from the bottom tank drain style fuel pump that was installed for a short period of time.
I would figure the fuel pump sock style filter, and or the fuel filter mounted on the motor would block just about anything.
