88 4runner Rear window bolt location
I'm a newbiw and have been searching as well as using 4crawler's site. I recently took the top off my 88 4runner and after putting it back on on it would not work. It actually worked up and down twice then stopped working. I had taken the top off before and reinstalled with no problems. The only thing I did differently was re installed the bolts so i would not lose them.....I've read not to do this since but am unsure why.
My motor works (jumped it off battery charger) and swapped out the relay just to rule that out. The relay clicks when the down button is pressed but not up. I've also taken the console switch apart and cleaned all the connections. I do not have the capability to test the switch itself.
My question though is this: Where should the 'Bolt A' be located? Mine is second bolt from back and has always been there.....only spot it will fit due to a larger hole cut in the fiberglass top.
I am wondering if this 'Bolt A' should be screwing into the switch under there because mine is not....the switch is under the third bolt from the back. It has been like this since I've had the truck and have had no problems with the back window. Does this should correct?
I am running out of patience and miss my back access.
Thanks for any help and yes I have looked at 4crawler's site and anything else I could search over the past week.

Make sure your rear wiper is all the way up and that the window lock is not engaged. My first gen rolls up but not down from the console switch but the tailgate key switch works fine. Just a couple of things to check. Good luck. Also if you remove the rear access panel you will see the switch, my old 88 switch was messed up so I bypassed it

Okay, just removed the shell top switch. Does anyone know of a way to test this? I am thinking about bypassing the switch with a jumper wire. Does this just entail putting a male spade push on connecter on one of the wires going into the switch and connecting the two wires? If so easy enough. Still not sure that this is my problem though.
Motor works.
Relay clicks when trying to put window down but not up.
Wiper is seated and works.
Swapped relay.
Still puzzled why the special funny shaped 'bolt A' is not in a position to screw into the shell top switch. The switch appears undamaged on the outside.
Any other thoughts......
Just to clarify: There is no simple fuse for the rear window function.
Thanks for any input.

I think I follow your issue - I had a similar issue in the past.
I didn't notice that there was a different bolt for the hole above the switch inside the panel?? Whoops.
With mine, the switch's mount had been accidentally bent, moving the switch out of range of the bolt when it was screwed in, so full contact was not made. I removed the bolt, bent the mount back to better line up, and re installed the bolt to depress the switch fully -that worked.
Maybe I had a different issue than you did? Photos?

Camera battery needs charge....try to get pics up later. Nothing seems bent and contact is being made......whatever I just did....now I can not get the wiper to work, which was not a problem previously....I think I'm in over my head.
