This is my first time dealing with a transmission problem, nonthelessa 4 runner tranny.
Would anyone care to fill me in on what model transmission I have?
And should I flat out replace it or send it in for a rebuild?

It seems that the 98 I bought off of craigslist may have been too good of a deal...

I have a 2.7 rwd with an automatic transmission that is leaking. It's been leaking for a while and in my inexperience with transmissions, I asked my dad about it. He said it was engine oil despite the oil level not dropping.
I took his word for it.

Anyhow, now the tranny makes strange sounds like a cd rom drive scratching a disc.

Ideas on my next move?

 

It would help to know what year your car is and stuff

I believe it's an automatic 4 gears w/overdrive. I can't seem to find the transmission models online

 

have u checked the tranny fliud? top it off and see if still making the sounds. if it is then u will need to replace the trans or get a replacement and change it out,

 

Sure I can top it off but the leaking will still be an issue
