new to toyotas

Hi. I'm new to Toyotas. Not to getting my hands dirty. Its a 90 runner with the 3.0. It is slow but I like the truck so far.

Passenger side shock is shot. The top hat is busted up and fluid is all on the fender wheel. They are rough country shocks so I hope I can get a warranty replacement.

Its got rust on it. Not bad but its there. Windshield is cracked, ac dosent work, power mirrors don't work. Still like the truck.

Been wanting a beast to get in and out of the mountains here in boulder.

Did these come with locking front end? Or solid Axel?

A buddy of mine is praising the locking front ends on his jeep. He says he can go where I can't. Idk. I'm hoping to do some snow Wheeling this winter once I et shocks fixed.

How can I tell if this thing has a lift. She sits higher then me on a good day. Lol

Oh yea..traded my crx for this. Wife was bitching about the small car. So I got a runner. Lol

I've heard the ones that were made in japan are better. Any truth? Mine was made in japan. All my Hondas where as well and I could beat on them all day.

I believe all 4runner are made in Japan. At least I know 1st, 2cd, and 3rd gen for sure.

84-89 1st gen
90-95 scd
96-2002 3rd

You freinds Jeep with lockers front and rear is a mighty beast. But its a sissy jeep. We pull Jeeps out!! Never take no Jeep guys crap. You could do front and rear lockers. Cost ya a little bit.

Best way to find good info on this site is to use google....but add "yotatech" to whatever you search for. Go over all the basics on your truck before you go wheelin it. Brakes...motor...etc. Make sure its all in good shape.

Lots of people here to help ya. Oh....and they love pictures!! Me too.

Thanks for the info man. I'm trying to post pics butim q mobile junkie and have no computer.lol

So...lockers front and back for me and I'd be ready? How can I tell if it has a lift? Just look for the u bolts and blocks? It sits high. I'll m 6 foot and have to take a big step to get in the truck.idk.

I plan on getting as much maintenance done as possibl. My wife even gave me the go ahead to dump cash into it.lol

In regards to the country of origin, ol
A lot of people have said some are made in California and thy are POS. Idk.

If it has lift blocks in the rear....thats not factory. Lift blocks are a bandaid lift. Better springs would be ideal.

You can get a photobucket account....upload pics from your phone to that.....then you can copy the code from photobucket pics and insert in your posts...there is actually a thread on here somewhere about how to post pics.

You should be able to do it with the phone. Soon as the gurus see the pics....they will know exactley whats up. Get pictures of underneath and such too.

No blocks in the back. Thick springs. Sits on 31s. Class 3 hitch or something.

Will not start now. :/

It tries but once I does it sound s like a cam. Smells strong of gas when it does also.

I fell I have a money pit but I'm fine with it. Wife sat in ithe drivers seat and fell in love. Lol

OK.so the app did work. Didn't the first time. Lol. Kept crashing and didn't show the attachments. That's why there are 2.

The only issue is the shock and the non start. I tied to start it again. It did start. Still idled rough, like a loppy can, idled at 800 then gradually went up to 1500. I turned it off

Sits on 31*10.50r15lt

Just so you know, the 3.0 is a bit of a problem child. Altogether a decent engine and a good first attempt at a V6 but sadly hamstrung by a few issues. Just keep on it maintenance-wise, and it will always take good care of you.

As far as lockers go, your most cost-effective option will be an automatic or a spool, but they can sabotage your truck's drivability. Personally, selectable lockers are the only way to go, ARB is the standby, but the newer Zip Locker from Yukon is looking pretty good. Swapping in a Toyota E-locker is an option as well, but that's an unobtanium part that costs a fair bit to use.

I'm fully awarded of the 3.0 being the problem child. I swapped from a crx to this. I'm happy so far.

Truck did crank up and idle better. I think its a problem with the cold start.......

Can't. Wife likes them.

Not to worried about the outside right now. Need to get the cold start fixed and the shocks. How can I tell if I have a locker? The front looks....funny.

Only reason my 99 still has em. She's pretty short though. Like 4-11 and 105.

You could tell her they are not sound or something...lol That the rock slider style running board is much "better".

they dont look bad...it just seems you want to go offroad...those boards kill some ground clearance. My wife says she couldnt get in and out of the 99 without em.
