Wait or buy locally

hello, new here and have gained a lot of knowledge but had quick question. 86 4runner 22re has loud fast ticking. Know its probably timing chain which I'm going to replace anyway. My question is should I buy from engnbldr and wait or buy locally. pretty important part don't know if I want to trust it to AZ or Orielly. Just bought this truck. 200,000 miles, single family owned and unmolested. Paid 1100.

There are some parts I like to buy aftermarket at the parts houses and then there are the parts I am very specific on what I want. If you are considering getting it from a certain place like engnbldr I would do that and wait. If you don't you will kick your self later for it... At least I always do.

That's what I was thinking. Just excited to get it on the road. Already made the decision to use his parts for a rebuild. This forum decided that for me. Great info

Yotatech is an incredible tool to do research on. I have been reading posts long before I became a member. If you already have a certain place in mind I would just get the parts from them. I always get ancy while doing projects because I have to wait for parts but a couple days usually won't hurt in the grand scheme of things. Plus you will be happier in the end knowing you got exactly what you wanted!

did the p.o. have a list of receipts? did they show any timing chain work? hard to believe that they let it go 200k with no timing chain.

i would pull the valve cover and see if the timing chain guide plastic is broken, before anything... if it's solid, set the valve clearances instead.

also check for exhaust leaks, they can be noisy.

Thanks for the info. I will check all that while I'm in there. No receipts. Since I don't know about the upkeep I'll just change it and all the fluids out. See if I can get another 50000 out of it while I'm building my new motor. I figured it was timing chain as it is hard to start and it is a constant loud ticking. Already switched alternator and power steering as the latter had a leak and dropped onto the former
