So I had an awesome weekend

I guess this is what the country is coming to. On Friday afternoon I am threatened with my truck being towed if I don't move it even though its in a perfectly legal parking spot. Apparently someone on the street was claiming it was abandoned.

Even after that little issue was cleared up it still had to move apparently and he said my registration was questionable???

California sucks.

In any case it did encourage me to get up off my butt and do the engine swap that I needed to do. She's almost done and I'm crossing my fingers hoping I did everything right.

Any tips on lining the bell housing up from the front?? Its being an obtuse thing. Also found out I need new engine mounts. 4x innovations are in the mail. While the engine is out I am painting the engine bay.

I love living in the woods. The only people who can see what I have parked are tresspassing in the first place.

I've never tried to mate an engine up with the tranny, only the other way around. Which was easy on my Toyota, but can be a pain on the many front-wheel drive cars I've worked on. Maybe if you loosen the tranny mounts and get a jack under it, you can get more flexibility to help the two come together. Or maybe the motor will go right in. Have you tried yet?

It is damn near impossible to mate a motor to a fixed tranny. The problem you will face is dropping the motor on to the motors mounts while sliding the clutch around a splined tranny input shaft. In fact, you would have to align the input shaft prior to aligning the motor mounts - all while hanging from a swaying hoist! My recommendation to alieviate any headaches would be to disconnect the drive shafts from the tranny and t-case, unbolt the tranny from the crossmember and slide it back as far as the tranny tunnel will let you (it should be enough space). You'll have to use a jack stand to hold it up there, but it beats having to bear hug that SOB to get it back under the truck. Then you can drop the motor in (leave the engine hoist attached to keep it level so you don't have a jack stand underneath the truck while you fiddle with that tranny) and bolt it up. Then you should be able to relatively easily slide the tranny back behind the motor.

oh, you also have to remove the shifters in order to slide the tranny back. And don't forget to disconnect your speedo cable, back up switch and 4WD switch.

That is totally unnecessary. Totally...

The problem is getting them on the same plane with one another. This means getting the front of the transmission up to allow the input shaft in the input bearing. Just take a floor jack and raise it up a few inches. There is more than enough movement to get the two to line up. I have done this countless times and never have had to drop a tranny to get an engine in. I do have 4 longer metric bolts that I use to bring everything together, I guess that's the only trick.

...says the guy that keeps blowing his motor...

BTW, there is more room between the tunnel and the tranny on 84+ trucks than there is in pre 84 truck.

I got it bolted up without moving the tranny. It was a pita but the only thing that happened was I had to bleed the clutch. I think I might need a new slave cyl actually. The action was kinda sticky.

Also broke down and scrubbed the underside before doing the undercoating. That has to be one of the stickiest/˟˟˟˟tiest jobs that you can do on a yota.

I should have her ready to run today. I'm just waiting on my new engine mounts from 4x.

Next up making custom leaf packs, fixing the horn, and the ever famous rattlecan paint job brought to you by rustoleum.

Its a tan like color honestly. I always liked how the black plastic offset the tan. Also got the raptor liner in the mail today only to fimd out I need the gun lol. I thought it was a hlvp gun included so I didn't order it. I will have pics tomorrow. I got all the accessories in today and re did some of the seals. Fan, timing, and messing around with leaf packs to figure out which will let me clear 33" and still use the stock front driveshaft.

Whew!! Been some long days. Up at 0245 and in be by 0800.

Saturday gotta run to the dealer amd get the 75k maint done as well as new rims amd tires on the scion xb. Poor tires on my wifes car separated in the desert heat!!

Yes I am stationed in the stumps. It has one of the best auto hobby shops in the USMC. Itching to get started on finishing the swap here in a few hours.

Semper Fi.

Got everything back together and the engine started up fine but I am having some timing/fuel issues I think. Ran out of time today so looks like it will have to wait till Sunday.

BTW those 4x innovations motor mounts are BEEFY! Surprisingly though the idle seems pretty smooth and the body shaking is minimal over normal.

I completely did a makeover on the electrical in the bay. I have pics of before but I haven't taken any afters yet. It was dark when everything was coming together. Here's what they look like painted though.

The wiring is more of damage control so I didn't have sparks flying when I hit the ignition lol. I pulled apart most of the accessories section on the passenger side and found multiple pieces spliced together. I just replaced it with good wire and bundled it back up.

ITS ALIVE!!!!......with cancer or something. I am pretty sure it's the coil. Got the timing set right I think, fuel pressure right, new sparks, pretty sure the jets are right as well. I was driving it home from the hobby shop when I noticed that I can only press the accelerator lightly and it won't rev over 2k. Anything harder than that and she just stops accelerating and gets all bent out of shape.....so I crawled home and parked it so I didn't incur another week of auto hobby shop fees. Each day is 30 bucks now for a flat bay. My coil is going bad so I decided to just bite the bullet and order the msd. I got the 6a along with the coil. I think that's the problem but second opinions are always nice.

In other news gmack the mounts are gernade proof imo. Pics are below but I am pretty sure if you snap one of these......well you've got bigger problems than a busted mount.
