Wondered about mounting my '83 body on an '85 chassis. I have both complete trucks, but I'm wanting to use the nicer '85 frame. I read somewhere that the 2nd gen cab is 4inches longer, and the frame is a few inches longer, but I think the wheelbase is the same? Has anyone done this swap? Will the body mounts like up?

 

This can't be that unheard of.

 

Like 20 years ago there was a local guy near me with an 88 body on an 82 frame. As long as the wheelbase is the same and you can weld it can certainly be done. But I haven't done it myself.

 

I put a 1992 2wd cab short box and bed on a 1985 4X4 short box frame as mine was shot and came across one on craigslist for $500. No custom anything, lift off and replace. I also have a just acquired 83 4X4 short bed I'm bout positive the 1983 and 1985 are identical. At least as far as the body mount locations go. To be absolutely sure I'd just pull some quick measurements. NO WELDING REQUIRED!
