Hey all,

I have an 89 RE with about 20xxx miles on a rebuild that I've had in storage for the last year. I just pulled it out two weeks ago, and since driving it i've had a slight knocking noise at around 1300 rpm, goes away (or at least seems to) when I rev it up. If it's hot you can barely hear it at idle as well.

Doesn't do it at all cold. Anyone had this before? I just did an oil change with 500ml of Lucas Oil Stabilizer and the rest ACDelco 15W40.

check the valve lash

Checked valve lash. All ok.
Checked ignition avance. All ok.
Oil weight is 15w40

Starting to think maybe it is bottom end. It's just weird how it doesn't do it on accel, only decel and cruise. Load it up and the noise goes away. I took a look at the chain and guides too, they look ok. Here's a video of the noise. Excuse the oil everywhere, I has it running with the valve cover off.

 

did you check and make sure your header are not crack? my did that same nosie and found out i had to replace my header then that noise went away

 

other then that check your valve lash make sure everything tighten down

 

I had the same issue a few months back, valves where to tight!!
