When I take off from a stop, my rear end jumps and shakes,I can't seem to figure it out, diff is full, clean oil, no leaks, tranny seems fine, no slippage or anything, Shocks seem fine too, could it be leaf springs? They are kinda flat, as soon as I hit about 5 mph it goes away, any suggestions would be great, it's driving me nuts lol

 

You'll have to do a visual inspection and look for clean spots indicating movement. Wouldn't hurt to jack it up and check by the old fashion tug test either.

Lube up the shaft, check for sticky brakes and warped hubs, check for signs of a lost wheel weight.

If it's only happening under load it's probably not something easy and cheap I'm afraid to say.

I can tell you the springs being flat aren't a problem, that doesn't rule out a problem with the springs but it won't care if they're flat plenty of flat springs out there after 20+ years including mine.

 

I'll check that out, I don't think it's a wheel weight, I drive the freeway every day and its fine at high speeds, u joints are good too, thanks for giving me ideas where to look👍

 

And if I take off really slow it doesn't do it either

 

I'd lean towards something in the spring area. broken spring loose ubolt. Seems pretty well linked to the load if you can do a gentle start and it doesn't happen.

Or the whatchamacallit uh yep drawing a big blank.. the center bearing on the two piece drive shaft. If you have one..

Would you say it's more of an up and down or side to side shimmy? Maybe that will trigger someone else's memory..

How does it act with hard starts from stops? Stick or auto

 

Hard starts from a stop is the only time it does it, auto, if I let off the gas and lightly accelerate it goes away

 

Give another close look at the trans fluid. Is it burnt smelling, recently flushed? It sounds just like when my trans gave up. If it hasnt been flushed or changed dont do it. It'll only speed things up. Could try a bottle of lucas
trans fix. Good luck with it.

If it is the trans be gentle and think about if you want to swap in a manual, a doner auto, or a rebuild.

 

I didn't check fluid condition yet, It's only got 111k original miles though so I doubt a filter and fluid change would hurt

Hmm, maybe I'll just get another one now, I can't afford a manual swap, though I prefer manual, I have a pull and save close, guess it wouldn't cost much, just sucks cause it's my daily driver now, just bought it from the grandparents cause I'm filing bankruptcy and can't afford my 02 trooper anymore, which that part is ok cause that thing is a money pit, had to rebuild the engine at 80 k and about every two weeks of driving something else goes bad, the yota just sat a long time and was just used around the property, so I guess I can expect a lot to come up, already had to do brakes and exhaust cause of it sitting

 

Two piece drive shaft? Mine did similar and it was the carrier bearing

A bad torque converter could cause a vibration like you're feeling. Had one on a Suburban.

Yup, it's the tranny, had Armco look at it, 4k to rebuild, wtf! Not goin that route

 

4K way out of line. Mine was 2200 and chane with new converter and some big peice in the transfer

 

Got lucky, found one on Craigslist for $50, filled her up with dex vi, put about 2k on it so far, no problems
