Cleaning water logged carpet
Whats the best way to dry up wet carpet? I don't have access to a wet vac and I would like to clean this up before it mildews. My drivers side front floor mat was covered in snow and apparently the carpet underneath it got wet also. Its been like this for two days now, but its not really warm enough here to dry it up. Any suggestions.....
Thanks

Update
Ok I went outside and pulled up the drivers side carpet. I found standing water under my carpet. What can cause this? I have noticed that every time it rains I get that mildew smell. My assumption is that its coming in from somewhere up front. How, I have no clue!
Anyone have any clues? Also can I purchase that gray colored fabric that is under my carpet. It appears to be stapled onto the back of the factory carpet. I just don't know where in the hell water is coming through......

The best way to find a leak is to have a friend spray water around the winshield and door with you in the vehicle searching. Good luck. As for getting the water up, go to the auto parts store and buy some super absorbant towels and place them under the carpet. You can also use a hair drier.

I have had to dry the carpets in mine and my wifes car before. We got the water from going through a 36" deep river. I took the carpet completely out of both cars and put the seats back in. Over the next week I layed them on an asphalt parking area in the sun. I had to flip them over and move them every hour or so because the ground under gets soaked. It took 3-4 days in direct sun to completely dry them.

Take it to a car wash and use their vac to get the water out then it will be eaiser to find the leak using the method above. You can also pick up a smaller wet/dry vac fairly cheep at walmart or sears for around $40 I think.
hope you find the problem

I had a super bad problem just like this. I went to my favorite local car audio place to have my new alarm installed, and when they ran the wire for the siren, they went OUTSIDE of the stock firewall grommet. So as soon as it rained, my car filled full of water. Driver's side front and rear footwells were actually puddling. I had mold growing up my seatbelt and some pretty gnarly smells.
At first, I had no idea where this water was coming from. I had searched all over the net, and finally came to a conclusion that I had a clogged sunroof drain tube. WRONG. So I ripped out all of my carpet to find a soaked metal floor. GRRR. I still couldn't find the leak. Finally, at my last look for problems, I accidentally bumped my wiper switch and the water channeled in along my fender and through the gromet flowing easily into my car.
I took it back, and they were glad to fix it up. They removed the front-half of my carpet (including rear seat area), steam cleaned it, and let it dry for 3 days. Then, they replaced all of the carpet padding and bolted my car back together. Oh yah, they also re-ran the wire in a new gromet.
Sometimes now I get this really nasty smell, and I hope I can get rid of it on friday when I rent a carpet extractor.
BEST OF FREAKIN LUCK. It's a HUGE PITA!
