japan 03 4runner and options / body cladding question

here is an '03 Sport w/ the hood scoop but it also has the body color bumpers and cladding which makes it look SO much better than the plastic. is this going to be available in the US? Why does the Jap model have to look so much better and not have amber lenses ahhh! They also had a site with all the navigation and audio options - wow they are soo awesome but I guess we won't be seeing any of this stuff. Look at the nav screens with dual cd/dvd/hdd and rear view camera system and all the other cool options! ahhh

Yes, that site was just mentioned earlier this week. Most people have checked it out.

I don't see a lot of those products being available over here, they were never available for the 3rd gens either.

If you like the look as you mentioned above, you could always get the Limited (with paint matched fenders) and then install a Sport hood. A lot of people have done that to their 3rd gen Limiteds.

It's called hood scoop envy

but in the 3rd gens are the sports available with limited look where the fenders/bumpers are body colored? i've seen tons of hood scooped 4runners that kind of look like limiteds. so if the 3rd gen had that as an option i bet the new 2003's will have sports available with body color later in the year

Limiteds also have a climate control a/c and the bulky cladding on the side which others don't. Also, Limiteds come factory with the leather & wood dash. All others are dealer add ons since Toyota doesn't offer it from the factory.

mp3 on Nav/JBL?

do you know if any of the available stereo's or the nav stereo will play mp3's or cd-r's? on the japan site above where it talks about all the nav and stereo models it has some that play mp3's and it lists features of it but i can't read it since its in japanese so i was wondering if the US model played it. Also, is it a tape and cd player? If you get the NAV that is run off of DVD is there a TV function like on some of the other nav screen models? I know BMW has a TV in theirs and there's an aftermarket part you can get to be able to watch tv all the time. Is anything like this available? If you go to bmwm5.com and go to the message boards there is usually an ad near the top for nav-tune that shows it. I'd be very interested in which factory stereos are compatible with sirius or the other sat radio or which can play cdr/cdrw and mp3's. I HOPE the navigation one can like the ones in Japan!

You'll probabaly be better off asking the dealer on the '03 options and what they can do. The Japanse market offers so many more options than the US. Still haven't figured out why. Don't count on the nav screen doubling as a TV screen as it's illegal to have a TV in the dash(except for rear view cameras)at least a working screen capable of viewing a TV reception. That's why so many have roof mounted or headrest mounted screens.

well tons of other companies have tv's in the nav screen. it is only usable if the vehicle is in park but obviously that's easily taken care of. the toyota japanese nav screens have a pic of one that has a tv tuner. the bmw nav screen is great it has full tv/dvd functionality which is awesome at nav-tune.com or something like that that you can link from the bmwm5.com forum

i'm more concerned about whether the stereo's can get mp3's and cdr's etc. b/c tons of new stereos even factory american models can do that.
