96 Tacoma Tranny Fluid Help

Hi there! I am new to this website, so bare with me here. I have a 1996 toyota tacoma with a 2.7 liter manual transmission. I need help with knowing how to change and refill my manual transmission fluid. I don't know what plugs to pop out and what fluid do I use? Thank you!

The fill and drain plugs are fairly obvious; I believe they're on the drivers side. They take a large socket or open end wrench. As I recall its a 15/16" or the metric equivalent. I used the Amsoil GL-5 rated, 75w-90 synthetic gear lube in mine. You can check the refill capacity in your owners manual. Basically you add fluid until it starts to run out of the filler plug opening with the vehicle on level ground.

I've found the easiest way to refill these is to get several feet of clear 5/8" plastic tubing from Home Depot, along with a small funnel that fits inside the tube. Open the hood and use some wire or a short bungee cord to secure the funnel to the hood. Snake the tubing down through the engine compartment to the filler plug opening. Then just slowly pour the oil into the funnel until its filled.
