can't get into gear

just bought an '85 5-sp pickup
shifted fine when i got it but it's been sitting for a spell and
seems maybe clutch fluid has leaked out?
i topped off what i believe is the clutch fluid res and it has sat for a while but
i don't know how to bleed it yet.

when i step on the clutch there's no resistance at all and can't shift into any gear.
tranny grinds if i try to get into reverse.

haven't found a repair manual yet so thought i'd see if i could get some help here.

thanks

Clutch slave cylinder is on the passenger side down behind the starter. Have someone press the pedal down while you watch the slave cylinder and see if it is pushing on the release lever visible outside the bell housing. If not, then it is either the slave or master cylinder. For the master, it usually leaks brake fluid down under the floor mats. Both are fairly easy to replace except a bit hard to access. Bleed by cracking open the hardline at the m/c while pressing the clutch pedal down.

ok, so i spent a bit more time looking things over and as far as i can see there is no leak and fluid level is good. when clutch pedal is depressed there is almost no movement at all of the lever at the bellhousing.

before i start replacing the hydraulics, is there a way to test/adjust the mechanism between clutch pedal and master cylinder?

thanks
