3vze auto trans shifter assembly

So i uninstalled my shifter assembly and it sat for a couple months now im putting it back together and i am unable to move the shifter lever out of park. Nothing is plugged in or hooked up including the arm that hooks to the transmission.

I havnt reinstalled anything yet because im concerned i will put it back together and still not be able to move it out of park. whats the trick here?

i thought as long as you press the top button down the lever should move but its not.

heres a video of me trying to move it, if it helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WRWn...ature=youtu.be

I think you need to plug and connect everything first, not necessarily put everything together but if you don't have it connected the the brake pedal I don't think it would work. To be honest I am not too sure what connects the brake pedal to the shifter but try that. I would also try using the shift lock override button, if you have one and if it's connected.

Yea, as said above, all the electronics have to be connected in order for it to know you've depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle is turned on. same reason why you can't shift it when it doesn't have keys in the ignition.

there is a lock on the shifter that releases when you turn the key so if its not installed it won't move. however there is a button next to the shifter that manually releases it. you have to stick a small screwdriver or key down into the button.

As 2toys says. If you have a dead battery you can still move the shift lever; you just have to use the manual override.
