96' 2.7L Hard Start Hot...

So I still can't figure out why the truck takes forever to start when hot (after a long freeway run, then restart about 15 minutes later). Had dealer do EFI and throttle body cleaning, changed coolant temp sensor, MAF cleaning, full tune-up, new fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, in-tank fuel pump. I seem to remember the shady car lot I bought it from said they had to eff with the timing to get it to pass smog. Could the timing be retarded and just need to be bumped? It still idles slightly rough in Drive at a stop light when warm too. The truck will crank and crank and sputter up eventually then smooth out almost immediatly...driving me crazy! help...

Check your fuel pressure regulator VSV...make sure it's providing vaccum to your fuel pressure regulator and upping the fuel pressure. It is designed to make hot starting eaiser by upping the pressure in the fuel system and not letting the feul boil in the fuel rail.
Procedure should be in the FSM for your model...I would post it but don't have your specific year.

They're two seperate things. You have a fuel pressure regulator that adjusts fuel pressure in the fuel rail. You also have a fuel pressure vaccum switching valve that works off of manifold pressure and a signal from the ECU. When the ECU fires the signal, it takes manifold pressure and sends it to the fuel pressure regulator via a vaccum.
It looks like this...

This is the one part on your truck that controls hot starts. Always should be your first place to check.

Snob, there's 3 VSV sensors on the vehicle...which one is it the one in your pic against the drivers' fender, there's 2 right there and 1 down lower on the intake manifold with lines coming off it. I also hear what sounds like a bee buzzing every 20 seconds or so..after the truck is off coming from this area of the engine compartment like it's extra fuel or pressure being purged or backing up in the lines, is that normal?

I know, at least for the 22re, the VSV for the fuel pressure regulator is blue. When I googled fuel pressure regulator, 2.7l, it came back being the brown one. So who knows.
The best thing to do is find your fuel pressure regulator, and back track the vaccum lines back to the VSV. Then test it to make sure it's operational...

One thing to add, is that the truck ONLY hard starts after a 15 min freeway drive, never around town start and stopping. ALWAYS, after the short 12 mile freeway run somewhere until it cools I guess.
