05 4runner bad torque converter

V6, 111,000 miles, shuddering on low speed accelerations, not shifting well. I'm just wondering how much this might cost me? Also, last year at 93k, it blew a head gasket--$3,500. I beginning to wonder if Toyota is still making reliable trucks. Anyone have any thoughts? Oh, yeah this 4runner has led a very sheltered life , no towing, regular maintenance. ----Thanks in advance--Dave

You may be better off finding a used low miles transmission and swapping it out yourself. Best bet is to find a transmission specialty shop. Rebuilds can go anywhere from 1500-3000 depending on the damage. But It may not be a bad idea for a major fluid service and see what happens after that.

Thanks for the reply. I haven 't decided the path that I'm going to take yet.I really got raked over at the dealer with the head gasket last year. I might look into a independent transmission shop. This is my third 4 runner and at this rate it might be my last. The dealers seem to think that these kind of problems are just normal wear and tear. Bull˟˟˟˟! Toyota needs to get it's act together.
