Hi. I am new to this forum, and new to the 4Runner. Just bought a 99 4Runner limited. The 4wd indicator just flashes. Took it into the dealership and after 5 hrs of looking into the problem they are telling me the computer is confused. THey are saying it thinks it's in 2wd when it's 4wd and vice versa. ???
The switch on the transfer case has some apparent water damage on the inside, and there is some corrosion on some of the connections. They checked all the vacuum and electrical and everything seems to check out well. First they thought it was the front actuator, which I replaced, then they thought it was the transfer case...now they have no idea!!
Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

If you have the electric version, look underneath by the trans... There are 4 solonids there that help actuate the 4WD. Check the connections on all 4 of them. They should be able to test all 4 to make sure they are working proper.
