worth a new carb and engine ring rebuild?

I've got an 84 2wd pickup with 200k on it which i recently bought off craigslist. It ran for about a week before it stopped idleing. I took it to the show after electrical checked out and they tell me it needs a new carburetor and its leaking oil in the engine. I can rebuild the carb for $60 or so or replace it for as little as 200. I have nbo experience working on an engine so that may be a more difficult endeavor plus the cost of the rebuild set. My question is, does anyone have experience with this sort of extensive repair and basically, is it worth it or am I wasting time and money on a dead truck? it cost me $800 originally.

If your getting oil in the engine the replace the PCv valve! Get a carb leagle webber and order a re ring kit with new pistons and oil pump from rock and find a mechane shop serface the head and do a valve.job then to reassemble the engine after watching putney customes videos on YouTube these engines are the simplest thing to put together.

I've only heard bad things about Rock Auto. Personally I would get Engnbldr.com parts or LCE Performance.

Well then the people you talking to don't know nothing my engine is full rock at 10.5:1 compression and revs to 6k all day dozens of times a day me and my dad have never had one failure after building over 3,000 engines with there produce. Lce product is evergreen which is the same as rock just in a different box so why pay more ? For the same Thing the only difference is the oil pumps
