Are you sure it's stuck in 4WD?

try jacking it up the rear end and then shift. might take the bind out. if your running more worn tires on one end it can bind stuff just rolling straight

well, i tried it and its still stuck in 4x4.

when i put it in 2wd it jerks and it almost sounds like some broken gear teeth rubbing together, which is unbearable so i have to switch it back to 4x4 for it to runs smooth.

You can alwasy drop the front driveshaft. Not the best solution (that would be to fix it, of course), but one that would definitely get you out of 4WD. It would still be engaged in the T-Case, but may let you get a little further down the road for the time being.

A lot of times I have to roll in reverse to get 4wd to disengage. Is it an auto or manual?

when my 4x4's that i've owned bind up and do not want to shift back to 2wd, i just get it rolling in first gear, let off the gas and shift it (transfer case) at the same time.
this noise could be something more serious. but first get it out of 4wd and unbound and see what you got.

highly probable, if the problem is more than what i think it is.

yeah its like a clanking sound, its like the shaft end is really loose inside and just hits the walls when its rolling.

if you are stuck in 3rd gear and od light is flashing then you probably have a tranny problem
