fuel pump fitment?

Im getting ready to swap a 22re in place of the 22r in my 85 and did some searching to no avail. I would like to know if a F.I. pump will fit in a carbourated tank or if I need to go another route. Thanks in advance.

Do you have an access panel under your rear seat?

If you do and their is a circular panel on the tank under the access panel, than you should be good.

Pickup or 4runner? Shouldn't really matter except the Runner has the access panel as mentioned above^^. Pickups don't, so a tank drop is necessary. Either way you would have to get the entire fuel pump holder/sender piece to fit in the tank. I believe they're the same depth, but I'm not positive on the diameter of the insert. My guess is they're the same.

I just did an external Walbro with a pre-filter so I didn't need to worry about that part of my conversion.

A carburated tank has a smaller opening at the top and you will not be able to get the fuel pump assemlbly thru it. The fuel supply hoses for a carb is like a 2 inch diameter hole and a fuel injected is about a 5 inch hole.

You will need a Fuel Injected tank or go with something like what rokblock suggested.

Just for future reference for others, I thought I would post a pic of the difference between fuel injected tanks and carburator tanks. Runner and truck tanks have different locations fo the fill necks.

Fuel Supply opening for carbd tanks. There is a considerable difference.

Fuel Supply opening for the fuel injected. Not the best pic, but one I had available. Where I am pointing at shows the line that likes to get clogged.
