Thinking Powertank , make my own , other OBA options?

I've been researching OBA options , Powertank seems like a great company, plenty of positive reviews here on Yotatech and on other 4x4 forums. The only drawback with Powertank is price . About $600 for the setup I need (20lb. tank, regulator, fittings, gauge, etc.)

So I've been thinking about making my own OBA setup, I've priced a 20lb. tank from a welding shop or beverage shop for about $160 , a decent regulator, fittings and hose at least another $100 . Out the door , price for my own setup is only about half a Powertank setup. Any thoughts, opinions, ideas, about which direction to go with Co2?

I don't mind paying for a quality product, Powertank does seem like it is a worthy setup , but $600 is a steep pricetag especially right here at Xmas time .

(I don't want to go with on board compressed air, I need my A/C . My g/f and I are school teachers and we are driving around the U.S. in summer, so she has to be comfortable in the truck)

You can't do an electric compressor with a remote reservoir somewhere under the truck? Like a Viair setup...

I know the cost is steep for Viair brand, but there are others.

i'm doing the exact same thing as you with DIY setup out of a CO2 tank i found in my in-laws shed. when i was growing up, that's the exact setup i always saw out on the trails and when camping, but this was well before powertank. powertank is still great idea and might be a good investment for someone who wants the simplicity of their nice, clean, package deal to get everything they need.

I've got 2 ckma12 compressors from arb tied together with a 2 gallon tank. Together they put out 6 cfm. Good units with lots of cfm and have a great warranty from arb. I bought the compressors off of craigslist and love them.
